For Ma, bamboo yarn

On gadgets:
Have you ever used skype? Or even spoken on the phone? My friend Dorion was talking about cellphones and how they are devices that we talk to despite the fact that they aren't living. We hold phones up to our ears, our faces, they spend a lot of time near our mouths and in our hands. Who, or what, do you spend

On life:
It throws things at you
and we have to learn how to accept them
and integrate them into our lives.

Lets add another the layer, try this:

Life throws balls of yarn at you
we have to learn how to catch them
and weave them into the fabric of our lives.

NOW think about this:

There are different types of yarn balls
small and glittery
big, fluffy and soft
itchy
silky

Yarns can be
frail
sturdy

Like there are different types of situations we encounter
pleasures
comforts
bad news
blessings

We have to learn how to accept these different situations, or catch them,
ideas
insults
surprises

And some people choose to
put balls of yarn away into drawers

Drawers can only hold so much.

When really, we have to live with whatever is given to us
and design patterns on our fabric

We have to choose and prioritise what will be more prominent or what will be of little significance.
Either way, everything that was given has to be included in the design,
in the tapestry.

Studio!

This is my studio space. I share it with Sam, Alex and Dorion. During orientation week we all got lottery numbers for choosing studio spaces. Those who had bad numbers got first pick at the supply raid. Lots of materials get left here from the previous groups. I scored lots of good stuff like paper, water colours and cases. I like my studio. We get a lot of natural light. Studios here open at 7am and close at midnight unlike the 24h studio lifestyle at RISD.

Orange and Blue

Via Velabro, corner Via d S. Teodoro

has orange and blue painted buildings facing each other. At high noon (12) the colours bounce off each other and it almost makes a grey. I find this colour combination everywhere. Even on this screen, blogspot seems to use it too. (sorry Ma, more coming later!)
